CLOTHING AND TEXTILES DEPARTMENT

Welcome to the Clothing and Textiles Department.
The Department offers courses in Fashion Design and Garment Making Technology. The fashion design and garment-making Courses are designed to fulfill the formal and informal sector’s needs for trained operators in the garment-making industry. The Course enables the trainee to acquire knowledge, skills, and attitudes on textiles fibers, fashion designing, pattern development, grading and marketing, and clothing technology, allowing the trainees to be self-reliant and further training and implement the Big four Agenda on poverty eradication. The trainee also appreciates both self-employment and salaried employment, a fashionably well designed constructed and marketable garment, understands the role of different departments in a garment-making industry, and enjoys the role of Information Communication Technology in Fashion Design and Clothing Technology. These skills enable trainees to cope with the challenging needs and latest innovations in the fashion industry’s technical field. The trainee will also possess supervisory and management skills to coordinate and manage workers at the operational level effectively. To achieve this, units such as Life Skills, ICT, Entrepreneurship and Communication Skills have also been included.
The Department has four programs: Fashion Design level 4 (Competency-Based Educational Training), Artisan TEP, Craft certificate, and Diploma program. Module programs take one year, followed by three months of industrial attachment.
Upon completing the Course, the trainee graduates can work as a Fashion Designer/Illustrator, Clothing Factory supervisor, Garment maker, TVET trainer.
