Green Skills in TVET Education: RIAT Hosts VET4Hydrogen Delegation

2026-06-23 RIAT

Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology (RIAT) recently welcomed a delegation from the VET4Hydrogen program, marking another important milestone in the institution's commitment to preparing learners for the future of sustainable energy and green technologies.

VET4Hydrogen is a European Union-sponsored initiative that seeks to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) by integrating green hydrogen knowledge and skills into vocational education while raising awareness of the emerging clean energy sector.

RIAT is among 20 selected TVET institutions in Kenya chosen to implement the program, positioning the institute at the forefront of efforts to equip young people with the competencies required for the rapidly growing green economy.

During the visit, the delegation engaged with RIAT's management and technical teams to discuss the implementation of the program and its role in transforming vocational education through industry-relevant green skills.

The initiative will introduce specialized green hydrogen modules into existing high-demand training programmes, including Automotive Engineering, Plant Operations and Electrical Installation. By integrating these modules into established courses, students will gain practical knowledge that aligns with the evolving needs of the clean energy sector while enhancing their employability in emerging industries.

The VET4Hydrogen program is anchored on two key objectives: combating climate change by supporting the growth of a clean energy industry and positioning Kenyan youth to take advantage of high-value employment opportunities in the global green economy.

Speaking on the significance of the partnership, RIAT reaffirmed its commitment to delivering market-driven training that equips learners with future-ready skills. Through the implementation of the VET4Hydrogen program, the institute aims to contribute to Kenya's transition towards sustainable energy while empowering graduates to become innovators, technicians and professionals in the green hydrogen value chain.

The visit underscored the importance of collaboration between development partners and TVET institutions in building a skilled workforce capable of driving sustainable development. As RIAT embarks on implementing the program, the institute looks forward to providing learners with opportunities that not only address current industry demands but also prepare them for careers in one of the world's fastest-growing sectors.

Participants engaged in structured review sessions aimed at ensuring academic accuracy, industry relevance, and alignment with national TVET curricula standards.

Subject Matter Experts worked collaboratively to refine content developed using Generative AI tools, ensuring that the materials meet quality assurance benchmarks while remaining responsive to current industry trends, sustainability practices, and evolving fashion technologies.

In addition to content validation, the workshop provided a platform for knowledge sharing on the integration of Artificial Intelligence in curriculum development, instructional design, and digital content creation. Participants explored how GenAI can be responsibly applied to improve efficiency in resource development while maintaining academic integrity and pedagogical value.

Stakeholders emphasized the importance of partnerships between TVET institutions, regulatory bodies, and development partners in accelerating the adoption of digital learning solutions. The collaborative engagement was highlighted as a key step toward strengthening innovation, research, and skills development within Kenya’s TVET ecosystem.
