RIAT is a public tertiary Institution established under the TVET Act. 2013 of Kenya’s laws. Gender mainstreaming is the consistent integration of gender concerns, into the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies, plans, programs, activities, and projects at all levels.
RIAT therefore, has established a Gender Management System (GMS) that is spearheading the policy development and implementation on issues related to gender equality and equity. Through this, a Gender Mainstreaming Committee is already in place to ensure that research, trainings, and learning activities are gender responsive and inclusive. The Institute is further engaging in Women in Technical Education (WITED) plans, programs, and activities to ensure uptake of STEM (Science Technical Engineering and Mathematics) courses.
The committee is out to establish and strengthen linkages and partnerships within the government and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with national and international obligations to achieve Sustainable Development Goal No. 5 “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”.
